Proof of being alive
What is it?
A proof of being alive allows you to show on paper that you are alive. You apply for a proof of living at the municipality.
How does it work?
You need proof of being alive, for example, if your life insurer or pension fund asks for it.
Proof of being alive is valid in:
- Netherlands
- Aruba
- Curaçao
- Bonaire
- Saint Martin
- St. Eustatius
- Saba
If you need to show that you are alive in another country, apply for an attestation de vita.

You apply for proof of being alive online, in person or in writing at the municipality.

Another option is to apply for proof of being alive digitally.
If you need the extract for your pension, there is no filing fee.
If you wish to visit in person you must make an appointment.
Don't forget to bring the letter from the pension fund!

If you need the proof for a pension fund, you will also need the letter from the pension fund requesting it.
How long does it take?
You will receive the document immediately.
If you requested the certificate online or in writing, it will be sent to your home. This may take several days.
