Renewal of Birch Avenue, Chestnut Street, Dean Deutz Avenue and Maple Street

The municipality is planning to renew Birch Avenue, Chestnut Street, Dean Deutz Avenue and Maple Street. We are doing this because in these streets the road surface needs to be replaced. We also want to improve the traffic situation in these streets and ensure that rainwater drains better.

This is what the streets look like after the work

After asking for the opinions of local residents during a walk-in evening, we created a final design. This shows how the streets will look after the work is completed. You can view this design on the specially designed project website. This will give you an idea of what the streets will look like after the work is completed. You can also use this project website to send in your questions or comments about the design.

In Kastanjestraat, Deken Deutzlaan and Esdoornstraat we want to make the roadway narrower. Traffic will still have enough room on the new lane. We will use the space freed up to improve the parking spaces and sidewalks. Where possible, we will expand and enhance green spaces. We will also provide new street lighting.

Material

There will be red concrete pavers in the roadway, anthracite concrete pavers in the parking spaces and gray concrete tiles in the sidewalks.

Road Safety

So-called punaises (thresholds) will be installed at the intersections. This is a raised round center section of the intersection, slowing traffic and increasing safety.

Rainwater

The roads will be disconnected from the mixed sewer system. Stormwater from the roads will be discharged above ground to the green area on Maple Street. This will reduce the amount of stormwater entering the sewer system and reduce the load on the mixed sewer system.

Planning the work

We will begin with Birch Street. If all goes according to plan, work will begin in week 48 of 2025.

When the work on Birch Street is finished, we will begin on Chestnut Street, Dean Deutz Avenue and Maple Street. We expect this to be in the second quarter of 2026.
