Proof of Dutch citizenship
What is it?
A proof of Dutch citizenship is a written statement from the municipality. It states that you have the Dutch nationality. For example, you may need a proof of Dutch citizenship if you:
- moving abroad
- is getting married
- Is applying for a position in public administration
What to do?
- You request the certificate from the municipality where you are registered.
- If you need the certificate for an institution abroad, you can request a multilingual certificate.
What should I bring?
- a valid ID
Authorize someone else
Create a letter with the following information:
- Why you need the proof of Dutch citizenship
- Who the authorized representative is (this person must be of age)
- your signature
- the signature of the authorized person
The proxy takes this letter to the congregation along with:
- A copy of your valid ID;
- his or her own ID.

The fee for a counter application is €15.50
The fee for an online application is €12.50
How long does it take?
You will receive the proof of Dutch citizenship immediately. If you request the certificate in writing, the municipality will send it to your home address. This takes a few days.
