Keeping bees

What is it?

You may not simply keep bees as a hobby or because of your profession. Bees are protected animals and can be a nuisance in your environment. It is therefore forbidden to keep bees:

  • within 30 meters of a residence or other buildings where there are people during the day (offices, schools)
  • within a distance of 30 meters from the public road

If you still want to keep bees, you need a waiver from the municipality.

How does it work?

If you get a waiver to keep bees, the municipality may make rules for this that you must follow.

The ban does not apply if you take sufficient protective measures or if you own the surrounding buildings. Protective measures might include a 2-meter fence that is no more than 6 meters from the hive or beehive. This will keep bees from flying in and out low.

What to do.

  • You request the waiver from the municipality.
  • Attach a situation sketch with a floor plan to your application.
  • Also put in your application how many bees and hives or hives are involved.

How long does it take?

You will be notified within 8 weeks whether you will receive the waiver.

Objecting

Do you disagree with the municipality's decision? Then you can object within 6 weeks.
