Soil testing requests

What is it?

A soil survey is sometimes required if you have construction or renovation plans. A soil test is also increasingly requested when buying or selling a home, business premises or a piece of land. A soil test indicates the quality of the soil at that time.

How does it work?

When is a soil survey required ?

Do you have a business or are you planning to start a business? And do you need an environmental permit (formerly environmental permit) to do so? If so, you often also need to have a soil test performed.

Soil testing may additionally be required in the following cases:

  • You use building materials, soil or dredged material (not for individuals).
  • The zoning plan changes

If the soil is not suitable for building a home, for example, additional soil testing and sometimes soil remediation will be necessary.

A soil survey is valid for 2 years. The quality of soil can change. Because of activities that take place on the soil or because the national research standards become stricter. With a field inspection or a supplementary survey, you can indicate whether the results of the soil survey are still correct after those 2 years.

What to do?

You may not have research done in the soil if it does not belong to you. You always need permission from the owner. If the land belongs to the municipality, you must ask the municipality for permission.

Step 1: Obtain soil information

You can request soil information from the municipality prior to conducting a soil survey (or having one conducted). To do so, send an e-mail to gemeentehuis@kerkrade.nl with the following information:

  • Location address;
  • Land registry information: section & plot number.

Step 2: Getting research done

Once you have obtained the above information, have a soil survey performed by a certified consulting firm.

Step 3: Assessment research by the municipality

You send the report of the survey conducted to the municipality for review. This may be as part of a permit application or you may mail the survey to gemeentehuis@kerkrade.nl with a request for a review of the report.

There are fees associated with this assessment. The fees can be found in the table below:
