Confidentiality of personal data
What is it?
The municipality keeps your personal data in the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP). Several organizations may receive your personal data from the BRP . Which organizations these are depends partly on your personal situation. For example, whether you have children or a driver's license. See which organizations may receive your personal data on the website of the Rijksoverheid.
If you do not want certain organizations to receive your personal data, you can ask the municipality for confidentiality. You can also request this for your children up to age 16.
How does it work?
If you prefer not to have your personal data disclosed to others, you can ask the municipality to keep your data confidential. You are always entitled to this confidentiality and do not have to give a reason why you want it. Your personal data will then not be passed on to:
- non-commercial institutions, such as sports and music associations or charities;
- Organizations that provide health care to patients in an institution;
- (after balancing interests)organizations performing judicial work;
- the Interdenominational Membership Administration Foundation (SILA), which maintains membership records for denominations. Your information may still appear in the records of the SILA itself. If you would like this data removed, contact the SILA or your denomination.
With confidentiality, the municipality only gives your data to mandatory agencies. Such as police, justice and tax authorities.
The municipality never discloses your personal information:
- individuals
- commercial institutions
What to do?
- Request the confidentiality of your personal information from the municipality. Attach a copy of your valid ID.
- You can stop the confidentiality of your personal data at any time.
Moving to another municipality
If you requested confidentiality and then move to another municipality, you do not need to request confidentiality again.
