Municipality of Kerkrade launches Centre Attack Plan
Kerkrade municipality is getting to work on the Attack Plan for the Center. This plan should ensure that the center of Kerkrade becomes more attractive and lively for everyone in the coming years.
To make this possible, the municipality has received a grant of nearly 4.3 million euros from the Rijksoverheid. This money will be used to repurpose empty properties, make the center greener and strengthen important facilities.
A center for everyone
Together with entrepreneurs and other partners, the municipality wants to transform the center into a place where people come not only to store, but also to live, work, relax and meet each other. We do this with the three Cs: Compact, Complete and Comfort.
"For us, the three Cs are the key to a future-proof center. Compact means that we go for an easily accessible, orderly city center where people can find everything they need. Complete means that we see the center not just as a shopping area, but as a place with a wide range of amenities, from education and hospitality to sports and culture, that reinforce each other. Finally, Comfort ensures a pleasant experience: from easy transportation and good accessibility to a pleasant, green, climate-adaptive space where people can meet. Together, these three values ensure that Kerkrade will have a lively and sustainable center, where everyone feels welcome," said Alderman Alexander Geers (coordinating Alderman Aanvalsplan Centrum).
Alderman Raoul Vinken (Center Management) added: "It is important that we not only improve the physical space, but also increase the appeal of the center as a destination. By reducing vacancies and strengthening social functions, we are creating a lively, future-proof center that is attractive to both residents and visitors. This is essential for economic vitality now and in the future."
