Attack Plan Center Kerkrade
Kerkrade's town center is evolving! With the Aanvalsplan Centrum Kerkrade we are working on an attractive, sustainable and economically vital town center. The plan focuses on a compact, complete and comfortable town center in which living, shopping, recreation and Health come together.
To make the center ready for the future, we are working on three main pillars: compact, complete and comfortable.
Compact
An important part of the plan is to make the center more compact. By concentrating stores and facilities in the core shopping area, we reduce vacancies and strengthen liveliness. Vacant properties will be given a new function, such as housing or services. Approach streets will become more attractive through a transformation into residential areas, giving the center a better balance between shopping and living.
Complete
We are also committed to a complete center in which a broad mix of functions comes together. In addition to stores, we want to make more room for hospitality, culture and recreation. We will strengthen social and care facilities, such as the HuB Kerkrade and the VIE complex, so that residents of all ages feel at home in the center. We will also invest in affordable housing so that both young and old can live here comfortably.
Comfortable
To make downtown more attractive, we are focusing on a pleasant and sustainable living environment. Squares and streets will become greener and more attractive, with more space for pedestrians and cyclists. There will be more seating areas and better walking routes, making the center inviting to meet and relax. We are also working on good accessibility, so that the center is easy to visit by public transportation, bicycle or car.
How does the IW scheme contribute?
The Housing Sites Investment Scheme (IW Scheme) helps implement the Attack Plan for the Center. Thanks to this scheme, we can invest more quickly in housing construction, sustainability and redevelopment of vacant properties. This is how we ensure that Kerkrade remains attractive for all generations.
