What is it?

You can change the gender on your birth certificate. You can do this at the municipality where you were born.

Your birth certificate lists your gender. As a transgender person, you can have this changed. Changing your birth certificate does not require you to undergo surgery or hormone treatment first. You also do not need to be sterilized.

When communicating the gender change, you immediately specify which first name you want to use from now on.

After changing your birth certificate:

  • you can apply for new travel documents and a new driver's license;
  • stands the adjustment in various administrations of the government;
  • everyone on your personal list will be notified of the adjustment. These are your parents, any (former) partner and children. You can agree a deadline with the municipality for sending this notice.

To change the gender on your birth certificate, you must make an appointment with a registrar by phone.

To do so, call the municipality at the general number 14 045.
