Requesting grave in municipal cemetery
What is it?
If a loved one of yours has died, you can bury them in a municipal or private cemetery. If you choose a municipal cemetery, apply to the municipality for a grave. The funeral director can arrange this for you.
There are local and municipal cemeteries in Kerkrade. For information about local cemeteries, you should contact the administration of the respective cemetery. The municipal cemeteries are: Bleijerheide, Chevremont, Hambos, Holz, Kaalheide and Kerkrade-Kom.
For more information, contact the municipality at the general number 14 045.
How does it work?
You can bury your loved one in a municipal cemetery if you pay grave fees to the municipality. This means that you rent the grave for a certain period of time. You can always extend this period.
If you rent the grave, you are the rightful owner of the grave. You then determine who may be buried in it. Ask the funeral director how many people can be interred in the grave.
What to do?
The funeral director can request a grave from the municipality. You may also do this yourself.
Please provide the following information with the application:
- the name, date and place of birth of the person who died
- the date and place of death
- The date of the funeral
- How long you want to rent the grave (for example, ten, twenty or thirty years)
- grave data (the location of the grave, etc.)
Relinquishing the grave
If the lease period is still ongoing and you no longer want the grave, you can renounce the grave. You do this by turning in a waiver form to the municipality.
Overwriting the grave
If the person entitled to the grave has died, you can transfer the grave to a family member. Do this within one year of the rightful owner's death.
