Free workshop helps participants better identify low basic skills

Do you see residents who are struggling, but aren’t always sure why? Sometimes it’s because someone has difficulty with reading, writing, math, or digital skills. This isn’t always obvious, but it does have major consequences. Think about understanding letters, managing financial matters, or finding the right help.

During the “Recognizing and Referring” workshop, you’ll learn how to better recognize signs of poor basic skills. You’ll receive practical tips on how to broach this topic in a respectful manner. You’ll also learn about the services available in Kerkrade and how to refer someone effectively.

This free workshop is intended for professionals and volunteers who work with residents and want to support them. By better recognizing where someone is struggling, you can provide appropriate assistance more quickly. This helps residents move forward and strengthens the services provided.

What will you learn during the workshop?

  • You'll gain a better understanding of low basic skills and their consequences.
  • You'll learn to recognize signs in real-life situations.
  • You'll get tips on how to start a conversation without feeling embarrassed or hesitant.
  • You'll find out what's available in the region.
  • You'll learn how to refer someone in a supportive way.

The workshop is valuable for anyone who works with residents and wants to help them become more self-reliant and active in their communities. Together, we’ll ensure that residents find the right support more quickly.
