Green light from The Hague for Parkstad Act: Kerkrade takes step toward safer and more livable neighborhoods
The application for the Parkstad Act (also known as the Act on Special Measures for Metropolitan Problems (Wbmgp)/Rotterdam Act) has been approved by the ministry. This act will enable the municipality to better ensure balance in neighborhoods by applying additional rules where necessary when allocating housing.
"We have received the green light from The Hague to implement the Parkstad Act. The Parkstad Act gives us additional opportunities to intervene in neighborhoods where quality of life is under pressure. In this way, we ensure more peace, safety, and livable neighborhoods. We do this carefully and with consideration for our residents," says Alderman Geers.
Important to know:
- If everything goes according to plan, the law will come into effect on July 1, 2026.
- On February 25, the city council will adopt the housing ordinance. This will officially establish the rules and Requirements housing permits in the Wbmgp area.
