Using soil, dredging and construction materials

What is it?

Only companies must report that they will be using construction materials. You must report at least where the materials come from and how you dispose of construction waste. You must also report the reuse of demolition materials.

If you are going to build or remodel, you must ensure that the building materials that will be used, such as soil, dredged material and building materials, are of good quality. Think of building materials as:

  • concrete
  • asphalt
  • roof tiles
  • brick

The Soil Quality Decree states which building materials you must report.

What to do.

Step one: determine if you need to file a report

The company using the construction materials must make the notification. However, this is not required in the following situations:

  • Use less than 50 m3 of clean soil
  • spreading dredged material on the adjacent property
  • Using or storing own soil or dredged material in farm business
  • use or store building materials that are not contaminated

If you are an individual who is going to use the building materials yourself, you do not need to report it.

Step two: determine when to file the report

  • If your business uses contaminated building materials, report it at least 30 days in advance.
  • If you are using clean soil with your business, report it no later than five working days in advance.
  • If you and your company are setting up a temporary depot for soil or dredge or will be doing other major works, ask the municipality when you need to report it.

Step three: making the notification

Make the notification to the Soil Quality Reporting Point. When doing so, provide the following information:

  • type, quantity and quality of building materials
  • address details of the company using the building materials
  • place where you use the building materials
  • date you use the building materials
  • place where the building materials come from
