Results from Kerkrade in the Civic Participation Barometer

Citizen participation is the process by which residents are actively involved in municipal policy and decision-making. It enables residents to contribute ideas, join the discussion, or participate in decision-making regarding issues in their local community, such as land-use planning, sustainability, or Health.

The Citizen Participation Barometer, an initiative of Publiek Denken and Invior, conducts an annual survey of the state of citizen participation in participating municipalities, gathering input from both municipal organizations and residents. Residents of Kerkrade have also made valuable contributions in recent years through the Tip-Burgerpanels. 

The results are now not only presented on an annual basis, but have also been compiled into a clear dashboard showing the outcomes from the past three years. This provides an even better picture of developments in citizen participation in Kerkrade—something we have worked hard to achieve over the past term of office. 

Valuable engagement by residents

Residents are increasingly reaching out to us and actively contributing ideas about their living environment. At the same time, the results also show that there are still plenty of opportunities to further strengthen participation. We remain committed to this goal. We would like to sincerely thank all residents who have shared their ideas and contributed over the past few years for their involvement.”

Kerkrade is participating in the Citizen Participation Barometer again this year. For the fourth year in a row, residents can share their thoughts on citizen participation in our municipality through the Tip-Burgerpanel and view the dashboard with all the results.
