Kerkrade bids farewell to the outgoing council and welcomes the new city council
The municipal elections took place on Wednesday, March 18. Residents of Kerkrade voted to decide who would represent them on the city council for the next four years. This week, we bid farewell to the outgoing council members, and the new city council was officially sworn in.
Farewell to the former city council
On Tuesday, March 31, the outgoing city council was bid farewell during the final council meeting of the term. Thirteen council members concluded their terms: Leo Christiani, Jo Essers, Maurice Hermans, Roger Hoofs, Mark Meijer, Jean Noël, Bjorn Oerlemans, Arnold Otten, Jo Rozema, Jos Schneider, Jo Severins, Herman Vleugels, and Carin Wevers. They were warmly thanked for their dedication and commitment over the past years.
Royal honor
In particular, outgoing council member Jo Rozema received a royal honor in recognition of his more than twelve years of service on the council. Mayor Petra Dassen-Housen presented the honor in a festive ceremony.
New City Council Officially Takes Office
On Wednesday, April 1, Kerkrade’s new city council was sworn in during the first council meeting of the new term. A total of 29 council members took the oath of office or made a pledge. With that, they officially began their service as representatives of the people of Kerkrade.
A new chapter for the city
With the inauguration of the new city council, a new term of office begins for Kerkrade. The coming years will be marked by new plans, decision-making, and engagement with our city. Together, the council members represent the residents and will dedicate themselves to the future of Kerkrade over the next four years.
Composition of the new city council
The city council consists of 29 council members, divided into eight political groups:
