Kerkrade takes a step towards a new pop venue: Flexiforum Live!
The municipal executive of Kerkrade wants to realize a new pop stage in the Flexiforum in 2026: Flexiforum Live! The stage should offer young people and music lovers a place for performances, talent development, and socializing. The municipal executive has agreed to the proposed course of action and to further preparation of the plan.
More space for live music in Kerkrade
With Flexiforum Live!, the municipality aims to broaden the range of cultural activities available to young people and residents. The pop stage will be located in the Flexiforum in Kerkrade-West, where numerous music activities already take place and where rehearsal rooms for bands are available. Dozens of bands rehearse in the building every week, and there is a need for a stage for live music.
The pop stage is being built step by step from the existing music infrastructure in the Flexiforum. A small space is already available seven days a week for performances for up to 100 visitors. The central hall of the building is particularly suitable for performances. It can be flexibly arranged for concerts and performances.
Music, culture, and encounters
The stage should be a place where music, culture, and social interaction come together. Young people are given opportunities to develop as artists, but also behind the scenes, for example in technology or organization. In addition, there is room for workshops, educational projects, and collaboration with schools, associations, and cultural partners in the region.
“With Flexiforum Live!, we are creating an accessible place where young people can make music, perform, and meet each other. At the same time, we are strengthening the broad cultural offering in our city, because the pop venue also offers space for other cultural activities,” says Alderman Geers (Real Estate).
Council decision in July
The municipality wants to organize the pop venue through a separate foundation. This will allow the venue to operate flexibly while also aligning with the municipality's social objectives. On July 1, 2026, the municipal executive will submit a proposal to the municipal council for a final decision on the establishment of the foundation and the investments necessary to launch the pop venue.
The council is now making a preparatory credit of €40,000 available for the preparation of this decision. During this phase, the organizational structure, program, and further design of the pop venue will be worked out, among other things.
Alderman Geers: “Flexiforum Live! is an opportunity for the city and the region. It complements existing offerings and fulfills an existing need. It should become a stage for and by the city, where young talent and culture are given every opportunity to flourish.”
