Starting child care
What is it?
There are various types of child care, such as:
- day care center (KDV) or preschool.
- out-of-school care (BSO)
- host parent agency
- host parent care
For more information, see the step-by-step plan for starting a child center or the step-by-step plan for starting a guest parent agency on the Entrepreneurs' Square website.
If you want to become a host parent, for more information, go to the Rijksoverheid website.
What to do?
Before you can start a child care business, you must arrange the following things:
- Apply for Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG);
- register your child care with the Child Care Disputes Committee;
- register with the municipality. You do this in writing using one of these application forms. Drop off the completed form at or send it to the municipality.
More information can be found on the Rijksoverheid website.
How long does it take?
When your application is complete, the GGD, on behalf of the municipality, will examine the documents you have provided and the intended shelter location. The GGD will contact you for this purpose. Partly on the advice of the GGD, the municipality will in principle make a decision within 10 weeks of receiving your application. You will receive the decision in the form of a decision. This period can be extended once.
