Rolduc life tree forest opened: a place full of stories and connection

On Saturday, Nov. 22, the official opening and planting day of the Rolduc Life Tree Forest took place. Residents who adopted a life tree were allowed to plant it themselves in the serene surroundings of Rolduc Abbey. The forest, designed as a Limburg fruit meadow with apple, cherry and plum trees, is a place where nature and personal stories come together.

At 11 a.m., Alderman Alexander Geers (Public Space) unveiled the sign with all the names for which a tree has been adopted in 2025. This sign is a lasting reminder of special moments, such as births, marriages and the commemoration of loved ones.

"The planting day at Rolduc was a great success. It was wonderful to see so many residents come together to plant their tree of life and make this day special. Each tree carries its own story, from joy to memory. Together we create a place that will be cherished for generations," said Alderman Geers.

With the 260 trees added during this planting day, Kerkrade now has more than 600 life trees. In addition to Rolduc, there are life tree forests in Kerkrade-West, Holzkuil and Carisborg.
