Job search support

What is it?

If you are unemployed and receive continuing education through pathway assistance, you can request reimbursement for an education or course that will increase your chances of employment. You can request reimbursement for:

  • course fees and tuition
  • Costs for study materials (e.g., books)
  • examination fees
  • travel costs
  • childcare costs

The municipality works with the UWV to help people find work. If you are unemployed and not entitled to unemployment benefit, you can register with the UWV. The UWV works with you to see what kind of work you are suitable for.

What to do?

First, contact your pathway supervisor, client manager or the municipality.

The municipality may pay the expenses directly to the school. But sometimes you pay the expenses yourself first and get reimbursed afterwards. Therefore, keep all receipts, invoices and declarations.

Signing in at UWV

Then you register with the UWV. Sometimes you need a Make an appointment appointment to do this and sometimes you can only register online. Complete the online form using your DigiD.

Making a work plan

The UWV can create a work plan with you. This outlines what you will do to increase your chances of getting a paid job. Think of job interview training, education or work experience. The plan also specifies the time period in which you will do this.

You, your UWV work coach and possibly the municipality sign this work plan.

Job search exemption

If you have benefits, you must apply for them. Sometimes you do not have to apply, for example if you are gaining work experience or doing voluntary work. Always discuss this with your work coach first.

If you do not comply, the municipality may again require you to apply for a job. The municipality can also reduce or stop your benefits.

What should I bring?

  • the bill for the training or course
  • declarations
  • an overview of your education (with your diplomas)
  • an overview of your employment history
  • possibly a medical certificate, which shows what your limitations are and under what appropriate conditions you can work
  • proof of registration with the UWV
