Unveiling of municipal vehicles with Kirchröadsj plat slogan
Last Thursday, the municipality of Kerkrade presented its refurbished municipal vehicles. These vehicles feature short slogans in the Kirchröadsj dialect. In this way, the municipality is showing that the dialect is important to Kerkrade.
Alderman Schlangen (Culture): "The dialect is the language of the heart. It connects people. The slogans on our vehicles make Kirchröadsj plat visible in the streetscape. This creates a sense of recognition and will bring a smile to many people's faces. We can be proud of that!"
Dialect is part of Kerkrade
The texts on the vehicles are a new way of showcasing the dialect in the streetscape. They are in line with previous initiatives, such as the bilingual place name signs 'Vaar normaal, vaar lanksaam' (Drive normally, drive slowly) from the speed campaign and the use of dialect in Beleef Kerkrade TV.
With this step, the municipality wants to make it clear: the Kirchröadsj dialect is alive and well, and we can all be proud of that.
Kerkrade encourages the preservation and use of the dialect and works together with the Province of Limburg to achieve this. By joining forces, we can strengthen the dialect and make it more visible and audible in our community.
Have you spotted the new municipal vehicles yet?
