Pedals for Progress Kicks Off in Kerkrade

Last Monday, Pedals for Progress got off to an energetic start at the Markt. An international group of about 30 cyclists with Parkinson’s disease prepared for a five-day, 400-kilometer ride to The Hague. They were enthusiastically cheered on by family members and passersby.

Alderman Nicolle Heijltjes (Sports): “What this group is showing today touches me deeply. Despite living with Parkinson’s, they’re pushing their limits and motivating one another. The fact that they’re setting out from Kerkrade makes us proud. It highlights how strong our community is and how important it is to keep moving—both literally and figuratively. With this bike ride, the cyclists are sending a message: together, we can raise awareness about Parkinson’s and show what is possible!”

After a warm welcome at City Hall, the international group of cyclists set off and rode down the “ Markt ” to loud applause. During their five-day bike tour, they will travel through Limburg, Brabant, and South Holland, raising awareness along the way about Parkinson’s disease and the importance of staying active.
