Sancta Maria reopens as Flexiforum expansion: DOE crew makes huge contribution

During the anniversary weekend on Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1, we celebrated the 5th anniversary of The Flexiforum. We looked back on five years of learning, working and living, but we also looked ahead: the completely refurbished Sancta Maria building officially opened its doors. A special milestone, made possible in part thanks to the efforts of the DOE crew. This former school building, right next to the Flexiforum, is now officially part of the Flexiforum complex due to the center's growth and increasing demand for space.

Indispensable force behind the scenes

Behind the scenes, months of hard work went into preparations for this weekend. Some of that work was done by the DOE crew. This is a group of participants from the work-study program in the facilities sector. This work-study program was set up by the Development Center at the Flexiforum in cooperation with the municipality's Urban Management Department.

Candidates from the DOE team are given the opportunity to develop their talents and find a place in the labor market. Through coaching, professional training and, above all, a lot of practical experience, they are guided to a sustainable place in the labor market. In this case, the practical experience was gained in the Sancta Maria building itself.

From painting to demolition jobs, cleanup to technical support, the DOE crew was involved on several fronts. Thanks to their efforts, the building is ready for a new future. The project also meant a step forward for the participants themselves: in craftsmanship, self-confidence and perspective.

More than just work

Through projects like this, candidates gain not only work experience, but also self-confidence. They see that they really can contribute something. Sancta Maria is now tangible proof of that. The DOE team shows what is possible when you give people confidence and opportunities. Their work is not only visible in walls and floors, but also in the stories of people who have regained their perspective. The project is thus a fine example of how social policy and practical development can go hand in hand.
