Conversion of a former store, office or hospitality building into home(s), among other things
Is it allowed in Kerkrade to convert a commercial space (e.g. store or office) into one or more homes?
It is possible in Kerkrade, under certain Requirements, to turn a commercial space (e.g. store, catering, office, services) into a residence. We call this "change of use to residential.
- Definition 'change of use to residential': The bringing into use of an existing building, or part thereof, for the purpose of residential use, which was not in use for residential purposes at the time this zoning plan was submitted for review. Taking into use for residential purposes includes room occupancy or living in a (business) residence.
The application for change to residential must be for a building with an existing commercial use and/or an existing commercial legal use (e.g. office, retail and/or hospitality), which also contains an existing legal residence.
The Requirements are contained in the Policy Rule "Residential division and change of use to housing municipality of Kerkrade 2023".
If you meet the Requirements of the "Policy Rule Woningsplitsing en gebruikwijziging naar woningen gemeente Kerkrade 2023" and would like to submit an application, please use the intake form provided for this purpose.
