Requesting a traffic waiver

What is it?

Sometimes you need an exemption if you want to do something on or to the public road. For example, if you want to place a moving van or crane on the road (whereby the road is partially closed), erect structures, organize bike rides or events. You apply for an exemption for this from the road authority.

To whom should I apply for a waiver?

  • for national highways: ministry of infrastructure and the environment
  • for provincial roads: Provincial States
  • For roads under the management of the water board: the water board
  • For other public roads: the municipality
  • For vehicle requirements: the RDW

What to do?

Does it involve roads under the management of the municipality? Then apply for the exemption from the municipality. Please provide the following information with your application:

  • place, date and time of your activity
  • reason and need for the waiver
  • How long you need the waiver
