Statement under oath or promise

What is it?

The municipality keeps records of its residents in the Basic Registration of PersonsBRP). These data must be correct. Therefore, the municipality takes this data from official documents, such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate or divorce certificate.

You can make a statement under oath or promise to the municipality if:

  • your information in the BRP is incorrect or missing, and
  • you have no other document to prove your correct data

Difference between statement under oath and promise

You make the statement under oath if you are a believer. You end with the words, "So help me God Almighty. "In all other cases, you make a promise. You end with the words, "I promise."

What to do.

  • You contact the municipality to prepare the statement under oath or promise.
  • The municipality first examines whether there is any other document that shows your data after all.
  • If there is no other document, choose whether you want to make the statement under oath or make the promise.
  • You make the statement under oath or pledge at the municipality.

What do I need?

  • your valid ID
  • documents that clarify what data is involved (if you have them)

How long does it take?

Your statement or pledge will be recorded immediately.
