Reporting lost or found items

I've lost something

Have you lost your passport, ID card, driver's license, debit card, or credit card? 

• If you have lost your passport or ID card, you can apply for a new one. You can do this in person at city hall.
• If you have lost your driver's license, first report it online to the RDW at . Then, apply for a new driver's license at your local municipality.
• If you lose your debit or credit card, report it to your bank as soon as possible. Your bank can then block your card to prevent unauthorized use.

Has your lost item been found? If so, you can contact us via iLost at . After making an appointment, you can pick up the item from the person who found it or at city hall. Please bring a valid form of identification.

I found something

Have you found a passport, ID card, or driver's license? If so, you must always turn it in at City Hall. You are not allowed to keep it for yourself.

Report of theft

If you believe your item has been stolen, you should not report it to the municipality; instead, file a police report. You can often do this online.

When you file the report, you can indicate that you want to become the owner of the found object. If the owner does not pick up the object within one year, you are the owner of the object.

If you have turned the item over to the municipality for safekeeping, you can only become the owner if the item is worth more than €450. 

If the owner does not claim the item within one year, you must report it to the municipality within one month after that year has passed.
