The white goods scheme helps households struggling to meet their energy payments. They can have one old, energy-intensive appliance such as a refrigerator, freezer, washer or dryer replaced for free with a new, energy-efficient model.

This way, these households can save on their energy costs and contribute to a more sustainable city. The scheme is designed for low-income households with appliances older than 10 years and have energy label of D or worse.

How do I qualify?

To qualify, you must contact the GeldWijzerWinkel in Kerkrade. They will see if you are experiencing energy poverty.

Then an energy coach comes to your home. This person will look at the appliances in your home. If it is necessary to replace an appliance and you meet the Requirements, a new appliance can be arranged for you.

Together with the energy coach, you choose an appliance from a list of available models. The WoonWijzerWinkel Limburg takes care of the purchase and delivery of the new appliance. You will receive the proof of purchase for warranty purposes.

The Requirements

  • You live in Kerkrade and have a net income (including vacation pay, spousal support and child support) of up to 120% of the social minimum.
  • There is an income issue.
  • There is energy poverty.
  • You have an (at least 7 years) old and energy-intensive white goods appliance that is due for replacement.
  • You agree to have an energy coach visit your home and make an evaluation of the appliances present in the household.
  • The old appliance should be turned in for recycling.
  • The new device is intended for personal use and may not be resold.

Tip!

Don't qualify? Then take a look at thrift stores for a used and energy efficient household appliance. These are thoroughly inspected and have an economical price.
