Housing offensive: new construction project New Canal takes shape
In the Gracht neighborhood, construction of the new Nieuwe Gracht project is now in full swing. Fourteen single-family homes will be built on the site of the former De Gracht elementary school.
If all goes according to plan, fourteen new beautiful semi-detached houses with garage will be built this fall on the corner of Grachterstraat / Sint Bernadettestraat. All houses are gasless, have underfloor heating and are energy efficient with label A+++.
Houses for every stage of life
In all houses, owners can choose to make the house life-proof. This can be done by adding the area of the garage to the house and making a bedroom, bathroom and storage room on the first floor. In this way, residents can continue to live at home in their familiar surroundings for as long as possible, even as they age.
Alderman Tim Weijers (Housing) said, "These homes are an excellent fit with our municipal housing offensive. The right quality in the right location and thereby improving livability. This means a nice boost for the Gracht neighborhood."
Residents help build their new (t)home
This afternoon the new residents of the Moat and other interested parties gathered at the construction site. Project developer HVG Real Estate had invited them to come take a look at the homes under construction. Also, everyone who bought a house was allowed to symbolically brick a stone of their new future (t)house in Kerkrade.
