Housing offensive: fourteen new homes on the Moat

Fourteen new single-family homes will be built on the Moat. If all goes according to plan, the new construction project "New Moat" will be ready for occupancy in the fall of 2024.

The houses will be on the corner of Grachterstraat/St. Bernadettestraat, on the site of the former elementary school de Gracht. They will be fourteen semi-detached houses with garage.

Lifetime

In all houses there is the possibility to include the area of the garage to the house. Thus creating a bedroom, bathroom and storage room on the first floor. In this way, the house becomes life-cycle proof. The residents can then continue living at home in their familiar surroundings for as long as possible, even when they get older and, for example, can no longer walk or climb stairs properly.

New developer

The plans for new houses on this site had been there for a while, but until now the site lay empty. The project has now been taken over by a new developer who will start building the houses this year.

Alderman Tim Weijers (Housing) said, "Now that we have transferred the project to a new developer, construction can finally begin. We are happy about that. These houses give the neighborhood a new impulse. Moreover, the project fits perfectly with the qualitative housing plans of our municipality: the housing offensive. After all, we want to provide more housing where there is a need."
