Protect the young fawns
Dogs must be kept on a leash throughout Kerkrade. It is therefore prohibited to let your dog run free. Dogs are only allowed to run and play freely in designated fenced-in off-leash areas and dog parks.
Fawns are born in April, May, and June. Most births in the Netherlands occur in May, but newborn fawns have also been spotted in mid-April and mid-June.
The doe (mother) is almost always near her fawn. It may seem as though a fawn is lying alone, but that is not the case. Therefore, never touch a fawn: the scent of humans or dogs can cause the mother to reject her fawn, and the fawn will then die. Fawns protect themselves by lying still in the undergrowth, which leaves them defenseless against stray dogs.
Important:
- Never touch fawns
- Stay on the trails
- Always keep dogs on a leash
- Stay away from the resting areas
Together, we’ll ensure these young animals get off to a safe start!
