College

Public decision list college

The college implements policies adopted by the council and acts as the day-to-day administration of the municipality; just as the Cabinet does nationally.

The college consists of the mayor, the aldermen and the town clerk.

The mayor presides over both the College and the City Council. The mayor is appointed by Royal Decree for a term of six years. The mayor is the main representative of the municipality to the outside world, is specifically charged with maintaining public order and must ensure that decisions of the municipality are not contrary to the law or the public interest.

Aldermen are appointed by the City Council and for four years; the same period as the City Council. Since the introduction of dualism in municipal government in 2002, an Alderman is no longer part of the council and the city council can also appoint an outside person as Alderman.

The college prepares matters for decision by the City Council. In addition, under laws and other regulations, the college has important responsibilities and powers of its own. Mayor and aldermen have divided the administrative tasks among themselves; the so-called portfolio division. Each Alderman and also the mayor has his own portfolio of policy areas. Aldermen, like the mayor, do not have the right to vote at council meetings.

As chief executive officer, the municipal secretary is the head of the municipal organization. He advises and assists the college.

College Program

The college elaborates the contents of the coalition agreement in a college program. In the college program, the College of Mayor and Aldermen indicates what it will do and wants to achieve in the coming years.

The motto of the College Program 2022-2026 is: "Continuing to build a vital and challenging Kerkrade together!

College meetings

The College of the Municipality of Kerkrade generally meets every Tuesday. College meetings are not open to the public.

The mayor and aldermen have voting rights in the college.

In case of absence or absence, the Deputy Mayor shall substitute for the Mayor (in order of 1st and 2nd Deputy Mayor, etc.). In the absence of one of the Aldermen, the other Alderman shall assume his duties unless otherwise agreed.
