3. You keep a cool head

Is it very hot outside? Then Health well for yourself and others

  • Offer children something to drink every hour, and bring a water bottle with you when you're on the go. You can refill it at the WML water fountains along the way.
  • Apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to yourself and your children every 2 hours.
  • Health for a cap, a hat, a parasol, and a pair of sunglasses.
  • Wear light, breathable clothing that covers your shoulders.
  • Keep the windows and curtains closed when the sun is shining.
  • Open windows and doors in the evening and in the morning when it's cooler outside than inside.
  • Stay in the shade during the hottest part of the afternoon, or find a cool spot to relax for a while.
  • Is the bedroom too hot? Sleep in a cooler place if possible. Let children fall asleep in a cooler place and then move them to their beds once it has cooled down a bit.

Cooling spots in Kerkrade

In Kerkrade, you'll find places to cool off both indoors and outdoors.

The indoor cooling spots are our community centers, the HuB Library, and the chapel/common room at Elisabeth Stift. Check the opening hours on the cooling spots’ web pages. You can find these by clicking on a cooling spot.

The best places to cool off outdoors are the larger parks, forests, and nature reserves.
