The informal care compliment

Please note that the Mantelzorgcompliment could be applied for in the period from October 1 to November 30, 2024. It will be possible to apply for the informal care compliment again next year.


The Mantelzorgcompliment is an annual appreciation by the municipality of Kerkrade for informal caregivers. Approximately 5 million people aged 16 years or older provide informal care in the Netherlands. They do this for acquaintances or loved ones who need help. Do you receive unpaid help from an informal caregiver, such as a family member, neighbor, friend or someone else in your environment? And would you like to thank this person for the Health? Then you can apply for the Mantelzorgcompliment. This is a thank you in the form of a cash sum of €200.

How does it work
The informal care compliment can be applied for by the person receiving Health (the aid applicant). Both the relief applicant and the informal caregiver must complete the application form together. As an aid applicant, you can apply for the informal care compliment if you meet the following Requirements :

  • The aid applicant is registered as a resident of the Municipality of Kerkrade on the date of application.
  • The aid applicant may nominate one caregiver for the caregiver compliment.
  • The caregiver is 18 years of age or older on the date of application.
  • The person seeking help cannot be a caregiver for someone else at the same time.
  • A caregiver cannot be a caregiver himself or herself at the same time.
  • The informal caregiver provides unpaid Health to the care recipient for more than 3 months and more than 8 hours per week.
  • The informal caregiver is registered with the Steunpunt voor Mantelzorgers Parkstad Limburg on the date of application.
  • A family caregiver can receive the Family Care Compliment once a year, even if this person supports several people in Kerkrade.

How do I apply for the Mantelzorgcompliment?
The application period ran from Oct. 1 to Nov. 30, 2024. It will be possible to apply for the informal care compliment again next year.

Assessment of the application
After the application, the municipality of Kerkrade checks on the basis of the application form whether the volunteer caregiver meets the Requirements . If the informal caregiver qualifies for the Mantelzorgcompliment, both the aid applicant and the informal caregiver will receive a letter. The amount of €200 will be deposited into the caregiver's account by the end of February 2025. If the informal caregiver does not meet the Requirements, the aid applicant will receive a letter about this.
