Speed Dating for Jobs at Flexiforum
How do you connect employers and job seekers during times of labor shortages? Last week, the municipality, in collaboration with the Development Center, organized another afternoon of speed dating. At the Flexiforum, a handful of local companies gathered to get to know candidates—and vice versa—through brief conversations.
Successful approach
It’s not always easy for the municipality to help people receiving Social assistance benefit a job. That’s why the Work and Income Team once again organized a speed-dating event for candidates who are closest to entering the job market. Kirsten Smits and José Seits from Vebego: “This is the sixth time we’ve participated in this event. Every time, we find at least one new candidate we can hire. Speed dating is unique to the municipalities in the region; we don’t see it anywhere else. It’s accessible and yields good results.”
Chemistry
What makes these speed dates so special is the informal atmosphere. No formal interview table, but an open conversation where candidates can show who they are without extra stress. This human approach proves to be a success time and time again. Patrick Goertzen of PG Personnel Services agrees: “The personal element in the speed dates is very valuable. It does take time, of course, but it consistently yields good candidates for the positions I’m filling. It’s a pleasant way for both me and the candidates to connect.” Sascha Pütz of MilAnSa Personnel Services agrees: “I see different candidates here every time, which makes it interesting for me to keep coming back. The candidates are generally well-prepared, partly thanks to the guidance they receive. There’s always one among them for whom I have a good fit.”
Recruiting new talent
Speed dating has also proven to be a surprisingly effective way for new participants to connect with potential employees. Dwayne Hoogenberg of CTC Verkeersregelaars explains: “This was my first time participating. I found it very positive and enjoyable. I was surprised to see so many people on the list for today. It provides me, as an employer, with valuable contacts.”
In addition to the speed dating events, the municipality supports candidates in many other ways—from informational sessions to company tours, and from workshops to wellness classes.
