Renewal of Ham Street traffic circle
Starting in mid-2026, the municipality of Kerkrade will be working on the Hamstraat traffic circle. Due to the construction of the Buitenring Parkstad Limburg (N300), traffic jams regularly occur in the evening rush hour from the Buitenring.

The traffic circle will be renewed and expanded with two additional exits, one towards Voorterstraat and one from downtown/Stationsstraat. There will be two bridges for pedestrians and cyclists so they can safely cross the traffic circle.

Safe for cyclists
The bridges provide a direct connection to the Park City Route. Cyclists no longer have to wait during heavy car traffic. This will make it safer and easier to cycle through Kerkrade.
Beautiful and well-fitting design
The bridges will have a slender steel structure and light, translucent railings. They fit well into the landscape and provide open sight lines on the traffic circle. Thus, it looks modern and attractive.
Smart design and collaboration
The design was carefully researched. Intermediate supports outside the road profile allowed the bridge to be made more slender. Existing cables and pipes are also taken into account; the municipality is consulting with the network operators about this.
The new traffic circle and bridges will make Kerkrade safer and more accessible for everyone.
