Renewal of Ham Street traffic circle

Due to the construction of the Parkstad Limburg Outer Ring Road (N300), traffic jams frequently form on the Outer Ring Road during the evening rush hour. These traffic jams create unsafe conditions for traffic on Hamstraat and at the Outer Ring Road exit.

That is why the municipality of Kerkrade is going to renovate and expand the Hamstraat roundabout. Work will begin in mid-2026.

The new roundabout is safer and easier for all traffic

The roundabout will have two additional exits: one toward Voorterstraat and one from the city center/Stationsstraat.

Two bridges will be built for pedestrians, cyclists, and horseback riders, allowing them to safely cross the roundabout. These bridges will provide a direct connection to the Parkstadroute. Cyclists will no longer have to wait in heavy traffic. The bridges and the route will also be well lit.

These bridges will blend in well with the landscape. They will be built so that you can clearly see all the traffic on the roundabout from your car.

The new traffic circle and bridges will make Kerkrade safer and more accessible for everyone.

Planning the work

Preparatory work will begin in February 2026. We will cut down trees and set up a soil storage area.

Enexis will begin rerouting the cables and pipes from the transformer on Klinkstraat in early 2026.

If everything goes according to plan, we will begin major work on the interchanges and bridges after the 2026 construction industry vacation.
