Climate Adaptation

Climate adaptation means adapting our environment so that we can better cope with the changing climate. This is because we are increasingly facing extreme weather, such as heavy rain or long periods of heat.

In July 2021, there were major floods in South Limburg. These floods showed how vulnerable our region is to long periods of rain.

Climate adaptation helps us make our homes and city stronger against flooding and heat. We invest in measures such as green roofs, rainwater harvesting and building with sustainable materials.

A lot is also happening in Kerkrade in this area. As a resident, you can also help. By taking measures yourself, you protect your home and help to create a better future. For example, by making your garden greener or collecting rainwater. The municipality can help you with this.
