Parking for the disabled
Disabled people can apply for a disabled parking permit (GPK) from the municipality. Drivers with a GPK can also apply for an annual parking permit that allows them to park for free in the roadside parking spaces.
Drivers with a GPK who do not have parking for their vehicle on their own property can also apply for a disabled parking space.
Handicapped parking pass
A disabled parking card, also known as a GPK, allows you to park in disabled parking spaces in the Netherlands and most European countries. Thereby, three different Maps are distinguished:
- Driver card: Do you have a disability and drive your own car? Then you can apply for a driver's card.
- Passenger card: Do you have a disability and depend on transportation by others? Then apply for a passenger card.
- Institution card: Allows healthcare facilities to transport residents with disabilities.
You can also apply for a combination of a driver card and a passenger card. For example, if you are permanently wheelchair-bound.

Annual parking pass for disabled parking permit holders
Since January 1, 2020, holders of a GPK can park for 3 hours for free in a pre-paid parking lot. To take advantage of this, one must place a blue disc with time of arrival in front of the windshield in addition to the GPK.
Holders of a disabled driver's parking pass, who live in Kerkrade, may also purchase an annual parking pass. With both the disabled parking card and the annual parking card behind the windshield, the driver may park for free in a paid parking lot. Thus, the driver does not have to pay the hourly rate.
The regulation applies only to parking spaces along roads where prepaid parking is available.
In the parking lots Kloosterraderplein, Europaplein, Kerkplein, Theaterplein and Einderdek, and in the Orlandopassage parking garage, you cannot park for free with a disabled parking permit and annual parking pass.
The cost for this annual parking pass is €32.20 per year (rate 2021).
You can only apply for the annual parking permit digitally using the"Apply for Parking Permit" form.
Please note that in the question 'Enter your license plate number', enter your car license plate number in the first box and in the second box put the description P.I.V.

Reserved disabled parking space
A reserved disabled parking space is a parking space for people with physical disabilities. It gives you a reserved space near your home or workplace with a special traffic sign and a sign with your license plate number on it.
You can apply for it if you have a disabled driver's parking permit, you have a car, moped or disabled vehicle, and you do not have parking on your own property.
